Courage & Renewal Retreat Opportunities in Vermont

Our Courage & Renewal programs in Vermont are grounded in a 48-hour (2 night) residential retreat experience. Since 1997, the national Center for Courage & Renewal—now with facilitators in 33 states—has helped foster personal and professional renewal through retreats that offer the time and space to reflect on life and work.

When we reconnect who we are with what we do, we approach our lives and our work with renewed passion, commitment, and integrity. In these retreats, skilled facilitators help create a quiet, focused, and disciplined space—a Circle of Trust®, as described in Parker Palmer’s book A Hidden Wholeness—in which the noise within us and around us can subside and we can begin to hear our own inner voice. In large group, small group, and solitary settings, we will explore the intersection of our personal and professional lives, making use of stories from our own journeys and insights from poets, storytellers, and various wisdom traditions. Clearness Committees, a communal process of discernment around a difficult life or vocational issue, are offered as part of these retreats.

If you want to begin a full one-year cross-professional retreat series, consider joining our new Courage & Renewal cohort beginning in November 2010. Participants commit to 4 retreats:

➢ Fall retreat: November 11th-13th, 2010

➢ Winter retreat: February 3rd-5th, 2011

➢ Spring retreat: May 5th-7th, 2011

➢ Summer retreat: August 11th-13th, 2011

If you’re a school leader & want to begin a one-year leadership cohort, consider joining our new Courage to Lead cohort for School Leaders in November 2010. Participants commit to 4 retreats:

➢ Fall retreat: October 28th-30th, 2010

➢ Winter retreat: February 10th-12th, 2011

➢ Spring retreat: May 12th-14th, 2011

➢ Summer retreat: August 8th-10th, 2011 (M-W)

OR: Attend a One-Day Summer Sampler Retreat on Saturday, July 10, 2010, 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. to “sample” the retreat experience.

Note: “Cross-professional” means we invite participants who work in the “helping professions,” broadly defined. We invite K-16 educators, health care professionals, clergy and congregational leaders, nonprofit leaders, and others to participate in our cross-professional cohorts.

All retreats are held at Bishop Booth Conference Center in Burlington, Vermont on the shore of Lake Champlain near Burlington High School and North Beach. The per-retreat cost is $350; one-day Samplers are $100; and a 4-retreat series costs $1400. Graduate credit is available for participation in a 4-retreat cohort.
